Spread the love

Aloha!

Week 23 is a little different because I’m sharing unfinished photos as part of a project I’m working on. I like the idea of showing you the progress I make as I stumble my way through photoshop, and possibly learn something as I go along. My goal is to create a realistic looking picture of a chicken riding a surfboard. It entails getting high quality photos of surf, a surfboard, and a chicken (or rooster, or both – maybe a tandem chicken surf photo), and putting them together so you can’t see the individual pieces.

Using photos I already had of surf that weren’t usable – one of Steve with water spots and too many shadows – and a crop of Shanti’s surfboard, I ran around yesterday trying to get a chicken photo. Getting a good chicken photo is harder than it seems; I should have gone to the McDonald’s parking lot where they hang out and beg for food. I got a few, though, and picked one to practice cutting out the bird to move to a new background.

Here are the photos I began with:

Surf

Shanti surf

Chicken

Small surf

From my practice photos and messing with photoshop, I got these (and yes, I know they need work! This is a work-in-progress post!):

Kauai Surf Chicken

Kauai Surf Chicken 2

I’m having a lot of fun with this project, and it’s well past time I became proficient at photoshop. I call the first one “Chicken Toes on the Nose.” In a few weeks I’ll share the new and improved photos.

If this is your first visit to the Kauai Photo Challenge, it is my way of sharing my pictures of Kauai while learning more about this beautiful island where I live. You are welcome to comment or share your own pictures.

Check out Week 22 of my challenge.
